Veg Box Shop

We now have a Veg box stall/shop which it situated at the Veg Box Centre. We opened the shop to sell Fruit and Vegetables to local residents at affordable prices. The current opening times of our shop is Tuesdays and Wednesdays 9am-3pm.

Cookery Classes

The Veg Box centre has a new kitchen designed to teach up to 8-10 students at a time. We have regular cookery courses running with cater for all abilities. The classes teach people new and exciting recopies, cooking with fresh ingredients and how to cook on a budget. We have a local cookery instructor that delivers our classes. The cookery classes are totally free and are open to everyone.

Growing

Our Gardener has worked with volunteers to landscape the Veg Box grounds which we now use to grow fresh fruit and vegetables.

We have several Growing stations throughout Torfaen that are maintained by our gardener and volunteers from the local communities.

In addition to the Veg Box grounds we have a small allotment nearby, which is also used to grow produce. The Garnsychan and CoStar Partnerships are working together to achieve the project objectives with CoStar taking the lead on setting up the growing stations throughout Torfaen whilst the Garnsychan Partnership is working to increase our customer base and manage the distribution elements of the project.

We are currently supplementing our bags with lettuce, chard, radish, fennel, blueberries, celery and much more.

We have growing starter kits which we will offer free to local community member of supporting the set-up of individual veg patches so Sam can visit their garden and offer practical support and advice. If you would like to learn to ‘Grow your own’ please contact the Veg Box team to find out more.

Volunteers

We rely heavily on volunteers to help us deliver this project and as such are working with many organisations such as Torfaen Training, the Future Jobs Fund and A4e Community Task Force and Quest. We help volunteers to gain many valuable skills and qualifications to enable them to enhance their knowledge and future prospects.
