Lunch Club

options2 We are proud to say that our weekly lunch club is one of the best in Torfaen! Serving approximately 90 older persons each week with a delicious and home cooked three course meal-the lunch club continues to go from strength to strength. This project has been running for 6 years and provides a great opportunity for local older people to socialise, reminisce and enjoy the good food in a welcoming atmosphere. Seasonal events such as Christmas parties, Easter bonnet parades and regular old fashioned ‘sing songs’ are also greatly appreciated by all involved. This project is very dependent on the dedication and hard work of 10 regular volunteers who help with food preparation and serving and it is safe to say that the lunch club is one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the Abersychan Ward. All meals are cooked according to Welsh Assembly health guidelines and we only use fresh, local produce in our meals. The lunch club also follows recommendations set down in Torfaen County Borough Councils ‘Older Persons Strategy’ which encourages older residents of the area to become fully involved and therefore valued in their local community.

Examples of the three course meal include:

Soup of the Day, Gammon and Veg, Chicken Casserole, Corned Beef Pie and Veg, Roast Chicken Dinner, Shepherd’s Pie and Veg, Pork Loin and Veg, Rice Pudding , Forest Fruits Pie, Fruit and Ice Cream, Apple Crumble, Spotted Dick, Apple Crumble,

The Lunch Club takes place every Tuesday at the Millennium Hall, Stanley Road, Garndiffaith.

A three course meal costs £3.00 per person
