A Torfaen charity has won a national award for its work in improving the digital skills of residents. Garnsychan Partnership manager Emma Cambray-Stacey attended a national awards ceremony recently to receive a National Digital Leaders Award on behalf of the charity. The awards celebrate the achievements of those who have made a large contribution to society through technology across the UK. The minister for the cabinet office, Francis Maude MP, was the guest of honour, alongside television host Clive Anderson. Emma said: "We are delighted to receive this award. It recognises our on-going hard work to raise the standards of digital skills in the area – something we are all incredibly proud of.
The prestigious awards acknowledge digital leaders who have improved services, transformed communities and neighbourhoods, contributed to technological innovation and made a real difference to individuals and hard to reach groups across public. Microsoft nominated the Garnsychan Partnership for the award and its corporate affairs director, Matt Lambert, said: "Microsoft recognises that a rapid and innovative response has been vital in providing a safety net for those communities who need vital digital skills. "Our Britain Works Programme is specifically designed to give people the opportunity to gain the skills and support they need to change their lives themselves. "When we initially interviewed Emma Cambray-Stacey, the manager of the Garnsychan Partnership, we saw the passion and drive that we were looking for in order to deliver a successful project to help the communities within the County of Torfaen. "We were very pleased to be able to make recognition of the hard work and achievements made by Emma and the Garnsychan Partnership’s Learn to Win project by nominating them for a National Digital Leader’s Award." Emma added: "We have a fantastic working relationship with Microsoft and were thrilled they nominated us for this award." The Garnsychan Partnership has been involved with the Microsoft Britain Works initiative and through this has been able to expand its courses in IT and online training, employment and social inclusion to skill up and enable communities to get back in to work. It was also awarded a Microsoft Top Subsidiary Award last year to enable it to continue its development of social enterprises and projects to regenerate Torfaen and its surrounding communities.
