Jarvis Warburton

I left school at the age of 16 with a couple of GCSE’s, hoping to obtain a job possibly in the Business Administration. I immediately signed up with Torfaen Training on a Skill Build scheme. The scheme was to span over 2 years and was aimed at progressing an individual in the career they chose to go with.

During the first month with Torfaen Training I was unable to find a placement anywhere and felt deflated, so I worked as a temporary administrator and receptionist within the Torfaen Training compound.

Luckily enough in 2009 I was offered a placement within the Garnsychan Partnership as an administrator.

During my time at the Partnership I attended computer courses on the Microsoft Learn to Win project, this helped me improve my confidence, I.T. skills and progress my career prospects. I covered topics like: Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Using the Internet, etc. The courses were great for helping me achieve my full potential. I went to the lessons once a week, having a 3 hour session each time.

In the summer of 2011, after a really good working experience and benefiting two years at the Partnership, I was able to use the Internet to search for jobs and I updated my CV with the skills I had gained, I also felt a lot more confident when applying for jobs I found. I attended extra courses with to learn extra skills.

The end of summer came and I my time at the Garnsychan Partnership was coming to an end, the partnership supported me to look and apply for work and even gave me coaching in applying for jobs and interview skills. As a result I got an interview to work as a Project Assistant in Torfaen County Borough Council, I got the job!! Thankfully, all the criteria required for the job I had learnt whilst working at the Garnsychan Partnership.

I am still working with TCBC in the Asset Management Department as of November 2011.
